Dr. LaShawn Scott
CEO, A Turning Point for Life of Illinois
I have had life experiences that inspired me to work in helping fields and be an agent of change in underserved communities. My aspiration to become a case manager or legal advocate led me to complete a Bachelor’s in Social Work. Later, the desire to make lasting changes drew me to the field of education.
I pursued a career in special education, which has provided me with valuable clinical insight. As a service provider and special education case manager, I have had the opportunity to collaborate with other specialists, and assess, plan, and teach individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With over 25 years of professional experience and education, I am well-equipped to handle a variety of situations that arise in a business, such as an agency supporting social welfare and addressing humanitarian needs.
In 2014, I completed a Doctorate in Educational Leadership with a focus on organizational change. My experience as a case manager has evolved into a deeper understanding of supporting individual needs, fiscal planning, resource allocation, and the policy and legal aspects of caring for others. A Turning Point is a call to action—a mission to manifest as a highly successful, premier CILA licensed provider. These personal endeavors and professional experiences fuel my passion and commitment. I am ready to lead, combining my business and clinical expertise as a change agent.
When away from work, I enjoy spending quiet time with family, ensemble singing, and binge-watching my favorite shows. Although altered by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, road trips and world travel remain some of my most cherished pastimes.
